A Noticeable Cat Eye with a Thick Hybrid Lash Design

Tall in Care. Great in Results.

A closer look at curl placement, natural lash direction, and creating a more noticeable Cat Eye without treating every natural lash the same way.

For this appointment, Ranin wanted a more noticeable lash look with a clearly defined Cat Eye shape.

We used a Thick Hybrid Lash Extensions design with an Extra Full Set, applying 100 lash extensions per eye.

When I looked at her natural lashes, one of the most important things I noticed was their direction. Many of her natural lashes naturally grow downward rather than lifting upward.

That direction matters because the same extension curl can sit and appear very differently depending on the direction of the natural lash underneath it.

Using Stronger Curl Through the Center

With downward-growing natural lashes, using only a standard C curl across the entire lash line can sometimes leave the extensions sitting lower than intended.

For that reason, I introduced more lift through selected areas of the center.

The middle section included a mix of D9, D10, and C9.

The stronger D curls help selected lashes sit more upward visually, while the C curl creates a softer transition between sections.

The goal is not to use the strongest curl everywhere. It is to place stronger curl only where the natural lash direction benefits from additional lift.

Curl placement also has to be controlled carefully. A stronger curl should be attached and positioned so that the extension does not sit too close to or touch the eyelid.

Keeping the Center Short & Shaping the Outer Corner

She prefers her lashes to look longer toward the outer eye rather than through the center.

Because of that, we kept much of the lash map within C8–C12, while keeping the center relatively short.

This helps prevent the shape from becoming too rounded through the middle and allows the eye to transition more clearly toward the longer outer section.

The outer section needed more length to create a visible Cat Eye shape. However, I did not continue the strongest curl all the way through the outer corner.

Instead, I used a combination of C and JC curls as the lashes moved outward.

On some natural lashes, very strong curls at the outer corner can be more prone to changing direction, twisting, or looking turned as the natural lash grows. Using a slightly softer curl toward the end can work more naturally with the direction of the outer lashes while still allowing the added length to create the Cat Eye effect.

This is why one lash set does not always need one curl from beginning to end. The center and the outer corner are doing different jobs, so the curl can change with them.

Thick Hybrid Does Not Mean Heavy on Every Lash

The overall set was designed as a Thick Hybrid, creating the stronger, more noticeable density she prefers.

But natural lashes are not identical across the lash line.

Where the natural lashes were healthy and strong enough to support more density, I could build the fuller Hybrid texture. Where individual natural lashes were shorter or finer, I used lighter single extensions instead.

This allows the overall set to remain full while adjusting the extension choice to the condition and strength of each individual natural lash rather than applying the same weight everywhere.

Extra Care for Sensitive Eyes

She also has sensitive eyes, so drying and comfort checks are an important part of the appointment.

After application, I make sure the lashes are thoroughly dried and check that her eyes feel comfortable before she leaves.

For sensitive clients, the finished appearance is only one part of the service. Comfort during and immediately after the appointment matters as well.

The Final Design Specifications

  • Set Type: Extra Full Set — 100 lash extensions per eye
  • Technique: Thick Hybrid Lash Extensions
  • Shape: Noticeable Cat Eye Shape
  • Base Lengths: C8–C12
  • Center Lift: D9 + D10 + C9 through selected center sections
  • Outer Corner: C + JC toward the outer corner

The result is a more noticeable Cat Eye with additional lift through the center, stronger length toward the outer eye, and different curl choices based on what each section of the lash line needs.

Rather than using one curl and one weight everywhere, the design changes gradually according to her natural lash direction, individual lash strength, and the shape she prefers.
